This lovely small National Park is really a jewel in the crown of the national parks in Sri Lanka. It is located close to the famous Yala National Park, which gets more attention from the tourists and thus Bundala is less touristic. Maybe therefore Bundala makes such a striking impression on its visitors. It is known as the bird’s sanctuary for those species which migrate to warmer places during winter times. It is famous for the great number of birds (around 200 species) of which the great flamingo, the kingfisher and fish eagle are the popular ones. However, apart from the rich bird life, you may also encounter buffaloes, crocs, elephants and monkeys. Driving with your jeep along the Indian Ocean on the red sanded tracks is an out of this world experience.
