As the oldest, still operating hotel in Asia, the Galle Face Hotel is the jewel in the colonial crown of Sri Lanka. The classic wing has recently undergone a thorough restoration. It was built in 1864, mainly to accommodate arriving and departing passengers from overseas. Having a high tea on the inner court verandah is an experience in itself if you want to get a taste of the colonial period as the British colonizers were enjoying it. Entering this iconic hotel is like stepping into history. The hotel is beautifully situated along the Indian Ocean and Galle Face Green.
