Walking in a mountainous and scenic area, following a trail, is called hiking. You can make a one day hike or a hike of several days, staying overnight in a tent or at trekker’s cabins. These hiking tours are also called ‘trekkings’. The biggest danger of hiking is getting lost and with a lack of good maps in Sri Lanka, it is advisable to take an experienced guide with you who knows the area very well. The mountains are very suitable to make some beautiful hiking tours, such as the Horton Plains (a one day hike), the climb to Sri Pada (one day hike) from Rathnapura and a trekking through the Knuckles Range. One day hikes can also be made in the Singaraja Rainforest; these jungle walks are also called bushwalks.
