Apart from the Cargills & Miller Building in York Street , a rather similar building can be seen close to. It is the headquarter of Lankem Tea and Rubber Plantations, one of the largest plantation companies in Sri Lanka. It is believed to be built around 1860, anyway after the Cargills& Miller Building. However, this white and red-brick building (more white than the Cargills building), which is situated in the Sir Baron JayathilakeMawatha, urgently needs restoration. The building is part of a bloc of historic buildings in this street. The buildings adjacent to the Plantation House are the Government Pharmaceuticals Company and the huge Gafoor Building, both being in the process of restoration.
