The Nippon Hotel is a landmark in Slave Island. It is housed in a long colonial building and was recognizable by its pink coloured façade, but currently it is a white building. They sell the best Chinese rolls in town and the food is fine, but the hotel-part urgently needs a refurbishing and according to the management the renovation will start soon. Perera & Sons, the famous national bakery has an outlet in the building, as well as the Dreamland Bar. The building comprises a big part of the Kumaran Ratnam Mawatha, one of the oldest streets in Slave Island.
