There are two international airports in Sri Lanka. The biggest airport, which is 35 km north of Colombo, is Bandaranaike International Airport, also called Katunaike International Airport, the second one is the newly opened Mattale Rajapaksha International Airport, near Hambantota in South Eastern Sri Lanka, also called Hambantota International Airport. Both airports are the hub for the national carrier Sri Lankan Airlines and the Sri Lankan budget carrier Mihin Lanka. Bandaranaike International Airport has 12 terminals with horizontal departure and arrival halls, but extensive expansion of the airport is projected to start in 2014. Most of the arrivals and departures go via Bandaranaike International Airport.
