Statues of the Buddha can be seen all over the island; in temples and on junctions, in homes and in public buildings. The real art in Buddha sculpturing is performed by the reclining, standing and sitting Buddha statues in Polonnaruwa, carved in the rocks, a masterpiece of sculpturing dating back to the 12thcentury.Most of the Buddha statues are bigger than man-size, but there are some extremely tall statues, the tallest are in Aukana, the Cultural Triangle, between Anuradhapura and Dambulla. The biggest collection of Buddha statues are assembled inside the Cave Temple in Dambulla. It is the biggest collection of Buddha statues in Sri Lanka on one place.
